where is my meat?

where is my meat? my meat is in Vegas, baby, Vegas!

In early November, I went to Vegas for the DevConnections conference and after hours, spent some time exploring the casinos on the Strip. Most of the hand-modelling done in these photos were care of Miss Ashley... if the fingers are short and stumpy with little fingernails, those hands are mine; if they look nice and elegant, that would be Ashley's :)

Let's begin...

This is meat in front of the MGM Lions. Roar! I was a little hesitant to whip the stickers out at first -- it's a little silly taking photos of chicken stickers on The Strip but whatever... what happens in Vegas is supposed to stay in Vegas!

Here is meat in front of New York, New York. Unfortunately the shot ended up being backlit and the chicken turned out to be a silhouette.

Here's the overexposed version of the chicken in front of New York, New York.

My meat crossed the Strip to Excalibur at night. There's a wizard in that dark archway.

I managed to sneak in a shot of the .net Framework 3.0 booth with the bacon sticker. Don't worry, I didn't get in trouble... I worked this booth :)

I stuck the chicken on the monitor of the demo machine at the .net Framework 3.0 booth. I got permission first and I retrieved my chicken. afterwards for further meat-photo-taking

Here's a rasher of bacon in front of Treasure Island and the pirate ship. Arr matey, slice me off some crunchy bacon strips!

Here's another overexposed shot of the chicken at the Venetian, with a gondola full of tourists in the background. I'm not sure if the gondoliers here serenade you when they row you around the casino.

A much better shot of the above.

Here's the chicken (again) in the Venetian's market square.

Here's the chicken once more by the canals at the market square.

where is my meat? my meat is in the Big Apple -- New York City (Pt 2)

My meat is in the lobby of the Empire State Building. I love love love the art deco representation of the Empire State in the background with the gold.

I'll excuse the rah-rah America flags for now :)

My meat is next to the H&M store across the road from the Empire State building.

Personally, I like the Chrysler Building a lot better than the Empire State Building... it's less famous but a lot nicer architecturally.

My meat is in the Meatpacking District in Manhattan. Appropo, right?

Check out the nose of the typical New York taxi peeping behind the meat truck!

My meat is in the Chelsea Market, home of the Oh! Network and the Food Network.

This market was strangely uncrowded and they had some fresh bread baking. NF bought a cheese bun. I personally liked the industrial sculptures and benches and the concert photos lining the walls of the market. They had this waterfall where a stream of water was coming out of this giant pipe protruding from the ceiling. It was very rad, very NYC.

No Emeril or Rachael Ray or Iron Chef sightings though.

where is my meat? my meat is in the Big Apple -- New York City!

Okay, okay, I've been lax. I went to the Philippines earlier this year and took lots of landscapey, touristy shots but I kept forgetting to take photos of my meat stickers :( Sadness. Maybe I'll have to cheat and digitally add in my meat stickers. Or maybe I'll have to just post the touristy shots on the blog, sans meat.

Anywho, here are the shots of meat on our recent-ish trip to New York City at the end of June.

My meat is at the Ellis Island registration hall. This is where immigrants to the USA lined up to put their names down as legal immigrants. Behind this hall are medical examination rooms, trial rooms and little museumy displays on what the immigrants had to go through before they were considered Americans.

My meat visited Lady Liberty on a pretty grey, rainy day. The good thing is that we got there early and the rain ensured that only the hardest-core tourists were out that day.

My meat is in front of the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street. Baller!

where is my meat? my meat is in an aquarium in Miami

Featuring celebrity guest blogger, MarthaSoft!

She took these shots on a recent recruiting trip to sunny Miami, Florida. This marked the much-awaited debut of the meat stickers on the East Coast. In this photoshoot, the meat is being devoured by some rather carnivorous sharks and dolphins painted on the wall of the aquarium.

Enjoy!

Close up.

where is my meat? my meat is in sunny Los Angeles

My meat visited Los Angeles, CA a month and a half ago for summer holidays. These photos are posted in reverse order so the beginning of the week is the last picture. Blogger and I did it that way to make things unnecessarily confusing. Los Angeles is definitely a fun city and we still didn't get to do everything we wanted to do after a week. We did get sunburned -- after our first day at Santa Monica and Venice, my sister and I both had burned dickies (a dickie is not someone's weiner, but rather a little piece of cloth that looks like a bib but has a neckline like a collared shirt/turtleneck so you *look* like you're wearing a collared shirt/turtleneck under a sweater or cardigan).

My meat is by the Universal Studios fountain in sunny Los Angeles. It was sunny the entire week -- and by that, I mean zero clouds, hardly any breeze. Prime sunburn conditions.

My meat is by the red carpet in front of Universal Studios. To quote a great man, "Yo V.I.P., let's kick it!". That great man? Vanilla Ice.

My meat is trying to obscure some lingering tourists at the Universal Studios sign. They really wouldn't budge.

My meat is by the entrance of Universal Studios. This is the fountain just by the ticket gates. We're on our way out at this time... we were supposed to catch a fireworks and music show at the Hollywood Bowl.

My meat is in the streets of "London" at Universal Studios. I have a sneaky feeling that they filmed the initial Austin Powers dance sequence here for the movie "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery". Also, that girl has an amusing "WTF?" look on her face. We got that a lot.

My meat is posing in front of the most famous great white shark in the world, Jaws. Excellent shot, if I must say so myself. Look at how huge that fish is!

My meat is at the conclusion of Jurassic Park the Ride in Universal Studios in Los Angeles. We liked this ride so much, we rode it twice. We meaning my sister and I, not me and meat. There was much more screaming and getting wet the first time around when we rode at the back of the raft.

My meat is in the gardens at the Getty Centre in Los Angeles. Check out the excellent architecture of the buildings in the background - not only does it combine angles with curves in a perfect balance but it also features a lot of bulk on stilts... and all the travertine tile used for the buildings/walkways/patio areas was imported from Italy. The gardens were designed in a geometric circular pattern and had a vista of downtown L.A. The architecture, gardens and displays (which featured late Rembrandt religious portraits) were all extremely impressive.

My meat is going down the escalators at the Bunker Hill Steps in downtown L.A. At the bottom of the steps is the downtown public library, which features a rather nice mosaic on its roof. You can check it out while riding up/down the escalators on the Bunker Hill Steps -- or if you're trying to be healthy, while actually walking up and down the steps. It's a bit of a climb, so I was winded afterwards and had to catch my breath.

My meat is still in front of the Disney Concert Hall. There's a small sliver of the new cathedral in the shot. I had no idea we had this many shots at this location.

My meat is still in front of the Walt Disney Concert Hall (home of the L.A. Philharmonic, I think) but this time we're facing the downtown core of Los Angeles. That middle sized building in the centre of the shot is the gas company's building, where the first action sequence of Speed was set. Remember the elevator rescue scene where they had to yank people out of an elevator stuck in between floors before Dennis Hopper could blow them up? That was set there.

My meat is in front of the Walt Disney Concert Hall - a new futuristic addition to the architecture in downtown Los Angeles. It's right next to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and across the road, somewhat, from the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art (or MOCA, as the locals call it).

My meat is in front of the Kodak Theatre inside the Hollywood and Highland complex in Los Angeles. Home of the Oscars! It's a choice shopping area and tastefully decorated, so I thought a naked chicken would be appropo.

My meat is in front of Jim Carrey's concrete hand and footprints at the Grauman's Chinese Theatre in L.A. It's ham for the Canadian ham. Maybe some Canadian bacon would have been a wiser choice.

My meat is in front of Robin Williams' concrete hand and footprints at the Grauman's Chinese Theatre in L.A. This time it's a lovely piece of ham. I think as a comedian, Robin Williams might appreciate the shout-out. Comedian --> ham, get it?

My meat is in front of the Grauman's Chinese Theatre in L.A. This place was packed with tourists, people in costumes trying to wrangle photos (and money) from tourists, people trying to go to the movies, people trying to sell maps to the stars' homes and people going shopping. It was chaos at its finest. Nice building facade though.

My meat is at Hollywood and Highland in L.A. Excellent shopping area, great view of the Hollywood sign and a few minutes walk from the Grauman's Chinese Theatre. We spent a day and a bit in this area, mainly looking for Keanu Reeves' star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This shot features bacon :)

My meat is in Little Tokyo in L.A. This little rocket in the plaza was a tribute to Ellison S. Onizuka, who was a Japanese-American astronaut on the Challenger -- which exploded a minute after takeoff.

My meat is at Santa Monica Beach in Los Angeles. The world famous Santa Monica Pier is in the background -- we were especially excited about it since this is where they started a previous season of the Amazing Race (I can't remember which)

where is my meat? my meat is in lovely New York, New York

Where is my meat? It's in New York City -- this shot shows my meat (sausages in particular) in front of the Guggenheim Museum, appreciating art and culture at its finest.

My (well actually LMA's) meat is at: the Central Park Reservoir in New York City. Very relaxing shots of bacon and t-bone steak by the waterfront. Le sigh.

Check out the Manhattan skyline in the background! You may know the Central Park reservoir as [a] the trail the Sex and the City ladies jog around in the early episodes, or [b] the trail Dustin Hoffman's character uses to jog in "Marathon Man", one of my most favourite dentist related movies of all time.

Still waiting on the inaugural meat shots.

Lisa Marie, post your meat photos!

Admittedly, I have been lax in unwrapping my meat stickers and forgot to take them along when I was exploring Seattle with Stretch recently. Boo for me.

Maybe I'll take them to my sister's graduation this Friday. Meat + graduation = 100% fun!

The Master Plan Revealed

My fellow blogger L and I were have an indepth discussion on how to actually carry this highly-amusing "Where Is My Meat?" plan out. It's all nicely laid out and the logistics are in place.

Dilemma:

Carrying a piece of meat in one's purse is unsanitary, stinky and smelly (eventually) and has the potential of leaving blood puddles in one's purse, not to mention attracting maggots, dogs and other meat-loving fauna. You can't be your super-fantastic self if you've got a bunch of maggots coming out of your purse. Ick!!

The Solution:

Meat substitutes from the fantabulous Archie McPhee store in Ballard. Rad!

- Meat stickers:
pros - you can choose from a variety of meats to photograph; cons - stickers are shiny. Glare alert!

- Meat templates:
pros - bigger! packs a punch! look at that t-bone!; cons - you don't really get a chance to look at anything other than that t-bone.

- Meat airfresheners:
pros - comes with a tasty BBQ scent, great to decorate your car with, zero glare; cons - same as the meat template, you may get tired of looking at the t-bone and it'd get played out after a few entries.

I'm a-lookin and I'm a-likin' and I'm a-shoppin' this weekend.
